Environment and host-related factors modulate gut and carapace bacterial diversity of the invasive red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii)

چکیده
The invasive red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii is present in most of the Portuguese rivers with well-known economic and environmental impacts, being also an important reservoir for many fungal bacterial pathogens that can affect native aquatic fauna. Here microbiota gut carapace from three distinct localities Portugal was characterized, using a metataxonomic approach. We tested whether biological measurements (sex, cephalotorax lenght, body condition stress through glucose measurements) sampling locality be used as predictors alpha beta diversity. Results showed are more responsive to differing conditions than microbiota, which likely affected by host factors, such sex. Additionally, we have found several potential analyzed crayfish. Our data provide relevant baseline but highlight need further research, namely fully characterize its role vector diseases freshwater ecosystems.

Origins of the invasive red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) in the Santa Monica Mountains
Although native to the southeastern United States, the red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) has become established worldwide through accidental and intentional actions by humans. In the Santa Monica Mountains of southern California, the presence of the omnivorous crayfish is associated with the absence or reduced abundance of native amphibians. The original source of P. clarkii in southern ...

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of 20 d starvation on growth, survival, histomorphology and ultrastructure changes in the digestive system of juvenile red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). Juveniles were divided into two groups: a food-deprived group and a control group at 9 day after hatch (DAH). Individuals were sampled at 14, 20, 29 DAH. During the 20 d fasting per...
